Trovi/Conduit Search Removal

The Trovi and Conduit Search is a family of malware that hijacks your browser and puts obnoxious ads on top of the pages that you browse. It can be hard to remove and requires settings to be reverted on the browsers that you have installed. You must uninstall it first, change your browser settings, and use Malwarebytes to remove the rest of the infection.

Uninstalling Trovi/Conduit:

Step 1: Click on the Start Button and navigate to the control panel.
Step 2: Click “Uninstall a Program” or “Programs and Features”
Step 3: Look for “Search Protect”, “Conduit”, or “Trovi” and uninstall all entries.
Step 4: Reboot your computer.

Resetting Your Browsers:

Step 1: In Internet Explorer, click on “Tools” in the top right and “Internet Options”
Step 2: On the “Advanced” tab click “Restore advanced settings” and “Reset”
Step 3: Internet Explorer will ask you to reboot your computer, proceed with the reboot.
Step 4: In Mozilla Firefox, click on the menu button in the top right, then click on the help “?” button and “Troubleshooting Information”
Step 5: Click “Reset Firefox”
Step 6: In Google Chrome, click on the menu button in the top right, and go to “Extensions” under the “Tools” section
Step 7: Remove any extensions you don’t use or recognize by clicking the trash can button next to them.
Step 8: Click on “Settings” on the left panel
Step 9: Click “Show advanced settings” at the bottom and “Reset Chrome”
Step 10: Accept the prompts and close Chrome.

Finally, perform a scan with Malwarebytes to remove whatever is left:

Step 1: Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from
Step 2: Run the setup file and install Malwarebytes.
*When installing Malwarebytes you will have the option to enable a free 30 day trial of their premium service, this is not required.
Step 3: Click the “Scan Now” button in green, if an update is available then click the “Update Now” button in the bottom right. The scan will begin once the update is finished.
Step 4: The scan may take some time, depending on your computer and the number of infections, but once it is finished click the “Apply Actions” button in green.
Step 5: Malwarebytes may or may not request that you reboot your computer after it has removed the infections, if it does you may proceed to reboot.
